Langar, 25th June 2017

Dave C led fourteen ramblers on this ecclesiastical walk from St Andrew's Church in Langar to two churches in Colston Bassett and back for Lunch In the Garden at Brenda's in Barnstone.
St Andrew's Church, Langar
St John's Church, Colston Bassett was erected in 1892.  A local legend claims a boulder lying in the churchyard is a meteorite, but it has been identified as cinnabar (the common ore of mercury) probably from Peru.

Chatsworth, 18th June 2017

John J's walk today started at Calton Lees car park and took eleven of us west to Calton Houses and up through New Piece Wood before descending through Edensdor to Queen Mary's Tower near the river.  The route then took us across the deer park to the Jubilee Rock before a short scramble up onto Dobb Edge which we followed to The Hunting Tower for lunch.

Emerging from the woods behind Chatsworth House, we crossed open moorland before dropping down above Beeley Brook to the village for a well deserved drink at the Devonshire Arms on a very, very hot day.
