Culverthorpe Lakes and Forgotten Hamlets, 31st July 2016

Bernard led 16 ramblers on this 13 mile walk through the hamlets of Heydour Parish, Lincolnshire. The walk passed through fields and woods to Heydour, Oasby, Aisby and Aunsby.

Here are some of Steve's photos.

Jo led this very pleasant stroll from the Ecocentre after an introduction from her brother David about the aims of the centre and his nearby farm.  I encourage you to go to their  website at www.eco-centre.org.uk to find out more.

Here are some photographs to remind you of the walk, courtesy of Bill.

Eastern gritsone - Five edges and two monuments, 24th July 2016

Gordon's excellent moorland walk started at the Robin Hood pub and followed Birchen Edge and White Edge to the north before returning via Froggatt Edge, Curbar Edge and Baslow Edge.  For the record, eight walkers, 10.7 miles and over 500m of climbing.

On the way we passed  Nelson's Monument, erected in 1810 by John Brightman of Baslow and the three adjacent rocks called the Three Ships, Victory, Defiant and Royal Sovereign.

Near the end we visited Wellington's Monument, dedicated to the Duke of Wellington and a celebration of his victory at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. It was erected by a local man. Dr Wrench who as an army man felt the need to counterbalance the memorial dedicated to Admiral Nelson visited earlier.
