Edwinstowe, 8th February 2015

You have had a preview of this but here we go again.

Starting at the Visitors Centre car park, this route ...

... took  us through Edwinstowe and past its13th century church, the setting for the marriage of Robin Hood and Maid Marian (allegedly) ...

... then along the River Maun ...
... and alongside the Duke of Portland's flood meadows.

Then we entered Sherwood Forest, past Archway house ...

... built by the 4th Duke of Portland and from where you could once see the Centre Tree across the forest.
It's there somewhere
Sherwood Forest has some of the oldest oak and silver birch trees in England ...

... including of course The Major Oak.

Finally, we returned across heathland ...

to the Visitors Centre to see Robin and Little John fight it out (allegedly).

And we look forward to seeing Gill and Snowy again on future walks.  Watch out though, Anny will be after that coat.
