Messages from the Chairman - new Walks Programme and what to do in bad weather

Summer Programme

The Summer Programme has just been printed and will be distributed over the next two weeks or so. You will be aware that at the AGM in November we agreed that from the NEXT programme, Winter 2014/15, distribution will be by email though members who prefer will still get a paper copy.  Also, we will be experimenting with this summer’s edition, in terms of in what format to send out the programme, obtaining more email addresses, delivering as many by hand, establishing who would still want a paper version, etc.

So, please let myself, Malc or Sue know what you think.

Bad weather advice

With the saturated ground and bad weather we have had over the past two months the question of cancelling walks has come up again.  The first rule is that if you’re not sure, check with the Walk Leader.  And bear in mind that an 8 mile walk over saturated ground, with greasy stiles could feel like 10 - 12 miles.  Next, if the Police and/or Highways Authorities are saying only essential travel, then the walk will be cancelled.

It is the Leader who has the discretion to cancel the walk depending how bad the weather is and the ground conditions are. He or she would check with Malc and or me before a cancellation. We would amend the web-site, if we have time, update this Blog and phone around. Someone will try to get to the start point to give the bad news to the one or two who will always slip through the net.
