Well, most of you missed a treat today on Paul's walk ..
... up hills and down dales in glorious sunshine. The walk included some of the most dramatic limestone gorge walking in Derbyshire as well as tracks across the high limestone countryside above the Wye Valley. Here are some photographs followed by an analysis of the walk at the end.
And now for some statistics!
The route was a bit hilly to say the least, with 692 m of height gained over the 18.2 km (11.3 mile) route.
Interestingly, the walking speed did not vary that much (from about 3 to 4 km/h) with slope, up or down, it was just the effort required that changed!

Eakring, 29th May 2016
Bernard's 6.7 mile walk ...
... today started outside St Andrew's Church, Eakring and explored the fields and woods to the south-east, passing near Dukes Wood Oil Museum and the Dukes Wood oilfield's remaining nodding donkeys. These were used until the mid 1960's to extract oil from the underlying sandstone. Follow this link to find out the surprisingly long history of onshore oil exploration in the UK, including Nottinghamshire.
The walk used part of the Robin Hood Way which has been diverted to avoid the line of National Grid's new so called T-pylons. These are likely to be used in future extentions of the national grid.

... took us from Trent Lock, past the entrance to the Erewash Canal and through the Cranfleet Cut of the Trent Canal, almost as far as Beeston Lock and then back through Attenborough Nature reserve.

Twelve ramblers managed to avoid the nearby horse trials to come on this 10-mile walk to Edensor, Chatsworth, Calton Lees, Rowsley and behind Haddon Hall to Bakewell. Here are some images of the walk starting in the car park next to the River Wye in Bakewell.
